Two Beaconsfield High School students were on excellent form at the School Games as they competed against some of the nation’s best young athletes.

Year nine gymnast Amelie Morgan was joined by Anna Croft, who is in Year 12 and competes in the 300m hurdles, at the event.

The competition saw some 1,600 athletes from across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales take part and is designed to emulate the format of the Olympics.

Morgan represented England as she took part in individual and team events and came away with an impressive three bronzes and one silver medal.

Firstly, she produced a consistent display in the all-round competition to finish in third and only be beaten by two Welsh gymnasts who were two years her senior.

A further second place in the team event ensured Morgan qualified for all four apparatus finals, making her one of only two people to do so at the four-day event.

Falls on the bars and beam mount saw Morgan struggle in both discipline, but she recovered to take bronze in the floor and beam.

Morgan’s efforts came after Croft had got the ball rolling for Beaconsfield High’s duo as she made up one of 350 track and field athletes.

She went agonisingly close to winning a bronze medal as she finished 0.1 seconds outside of the top three in the 300m hurdles.

Nonetheless, Croft, who was part of the south west team, could be pleased with her time of 45.19.
