One of Britain’s top national treasures, Mary Berry, will flick the switch on Marlow’s Christmas lights this year.

The Great British Bake Off star - who is from Penn - will climb to the top of the iconic red double decker bus land light up the town at the annual Switch on and Shop event on Thursday, November 24.

Shops will be open late and Christmas displays will line the High Street while Marlow FM raises Christmas spirits with festive songs.

Town mayor Cllr Bob Johnson said: “We’re so delighted to have such a popular celebrity agree to switch on our lights this year.

“Mary Berry is a household name and her presence will help us to raise awareness of our wonderful town.”

Berry is the latest celebrity to be asked to perform the honour, after actor Tom Chamber in 2013, Tom Kerridge the year after and Sir Steve Redgrave in 2015.

This year's celebrations will start at 5.30 and the High Street will be closed from 5pm to 7.30 for the grand switch on.
