An Amersham church is celebrating its golden jubilee with a retrospective exhibition this month.

The St Michael and All Angels Church in Sycamore Road, Amersham-on-the-Hill, is inviting the community to take a walk down memory lane with the exhibition which will look back on the church’s 50-year life as a hub in the south Bucks town.

September 17 marks 50 years since the church’s building was dedicated and the anniversary will be marked with an open day featuring displays by some of the many groups that use it.

The open day will also give families and shoppers the chance to see the exhibition which will include old photos, scale models of the old church (now the church hall) and Sycamore Road in 1965, just before the current building went up.

Films relating to the church will also be shown.

Church administrator Hazel Miller said: “We hope the exhibition will trigger memories and appeal to anyone interested in the history of Amersham, art and architecture, as well as families and others keen to learn more about the church and what it offers.”

It opens tomorrow (Wednesday) and will run until Saturday, September 24, except for Sunday when services are taking place.
