UPDATE: House fire after home struck by lightning.

Flash flooding has caused chaos across south Buckinghamshire after heavy storms overnight.

There are delays of more than an hour on the M40 and other roads have been shut while parts of The Rye, in High Wycombe, are currently underwater.

Trasport for Bucks has said long delays are expected in Station Road, Beaconsfield, while crews from Affinty Water clear the water.

Ground services firm Quadron Services issued a statement this morning saying its teams checked the football pitches at The Rye this morning and advised that all junior and adult games can proceed as booked over the weekend.

However it is their opinion that the mini pitches will remain flooded and be "unplayable", and that should any more rain come down, it would be down to the referee to make a decision as to whether the game can proceed on the day.

Drivers also reported delays of more than an hour to get through town this morning and as of 10am today, traffic was still causing chaos around the town.

One Bucks Free Press reader said: "Knew Little Marlow would be flooded (always is) so drove though HW and nearly drowned on the London Rd near The Rye.

"Don't know why I didn't see that coming considering it's a flood plain."

A video has been sent to the Bucks Free Press showing the Rye Lido roof leaking (scroll down to see footage).

In the last 24 hours, Met Office forecasters have warned of heavy showers across the South East, but it appears that Bucks has been one of the worst affected areas.

The Rye is currently under water.

One lane was closed between M40 junction 5 (Stokenchurch) and junction 4 (High Wycombe) this morning because of flooding, leaving delays of up to 90 minutes.

It has since been reopened, but long delays remain in place.

While The Rye is almost unrecognisable, as seen in pictures taken by people walking in the area this morning.

Heavy flooding has also hit the London Road, in High Wycombe, with severe delays being reported across the town.

And the A40 Oxford Road, in Gerrards Cross, has been forced to close in both directions after five cars broke down in the flood water.

The road is currently blocked between Bulstrode Way and Mumfords Lane.

Thames Valley Police has issued a warning too, saying they are currently responding to a number of incidents of flooding across the Thames Valley, particularly on the M40.

The M4 is closed westbound at J8 Maidenhead with diversions over the junction via the entry and exit sliproads to clear flooding under the bridge, Highways England has warned.

Firefighters were called out to reports of internal flooding in Green Street, High Wycombe, at 5.37am today and High Wycombe Fire Station warned drivers to take extra care out on the roads this morning.

Transport for Bucks teams are out in Beaconsfield, Chalfont St Peter and the Chilterns with gully clearing equipment, and are asking people not to report details of flooded roads on Twitter but to call 01296 382416 or 486630 (out of hours) for the best response.

Wycombe and Chiltern District Councils have said bin collections in the area have been disrupted due to flooding, with the worst affected areas being Bourne End, High Wycombe, Marlow, Little Marlow, Flackwell Heath and Stokenchurch.

The councils are asking residents to leave their bins out for crews to collect, and has apologised for any inconvenience caused, saying crews will get to houses in these areas as quickly as they can.

The heavy rain brings an end to a mini-heatwave across the town.

It was only a few days ago that people were sunbathing on The Rye, now it is under water.

Bucks Free Press:

The Met Office has issued another weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms across the south east today, which are not expected to hit Bucks.
