Police received a “potentially very strong” lead in their hunt for the man who sexually assaulted two girls at LEGOLAND after taking their appeal national on Crimewatch.

Acting DCI Andy Howard, from Thames Valley Police, appeared on BCC’s Crimewatch – which came live from TVP’s headquarters in Kidlington – last night, to urge any witnesses to the horrific attack on August 11 to come forward.

The six-year-old victims were playing inside one of the towers at Castaway Camp in Pirate Shores, LEGOLAND Windsor, when they were touched inappropriately by a man who was also seen talking to other children and offering to help lift them onto play equipment.

Despite releasing an e-fit of the suspect – who is described as being white, in his teens or early twenties, possibly under 5ft 8ins and wearing dark-coloured slim fitting trousers, a dark-coloured T-shirt, and trainers – police have not yet managed to identify the man.

However, after their appeal went out on national television last night – which saw the girls’ distraught mothers reveal horrific details of the crime - police received new lines of enquiry.

A member of the public who was at LEGOLAND on the same day called the show to say they had checked their photos from Castaway Camp and found a male in the background that could be the suspect.

In a video posted on the Crimewatch Twitter page after the episode had finished, acting DCI Andy Howard said it had been a “positive night” with more than 50 phone calls.

He said: “We have some really good lines of enquiry and things to follow up – in particular, what I believe is a definite sighting of this man in Castaway Camp.”
