Wycombe Ladies hockey team got their Southern Division 3A campaign off to the perfect start with a 2-1 win against Eastcote on Saturday.
A quick start allowed Wycombe to control the early stages of the game and some skilful play on the right wing led to the opener.
Jane Clarke played an important role in the go ahead goal as she set up Alia Brammal who calmly turned home to give Wycombe a half-time lead.
The second half was more evenly contested and Eastcote grabbed an equaliser with 14 minutes played.
Wycombe were not to be denied the points though and Beth Wagge finished smartly to restore her side’s advantage.
The home side were forced to weather some late Eastcote pressure, but survived a number of penalty corners and held out for the win.
The annual Croxson Trophy match, which sees Wycombe take on Marlow across six different teams, takes place tomorrow.
The winner is decided by an aggregate score from all six matches which include teams from the First XI to vets side.
