A 70-year-old south Bucks man with Parkinson’s disease is taking on an epic 1,500 mile “pilgrimage” to try and win £10,000 for Parkinson’s UK.
Peter Charles has been challenged to backpack across medieval pilgrim routes from his home in Little Missenden to Santiago de Compostela in North West Spain as part of the Mountain Warehouse charity challenge.
TV presenter and author Simon Reeve is on board the challenge this year, set by outdoor retailer Mountain Warehouse, to encourage people around the country to set themselves daring, outdoor feats to raise money for charity.
This year, as well as a prize fund of £10,000 for charity, the lucky winner will get the chance to take on Simon’s own charity challenge alongside the adventurer himself.
Mr Charles is asking people to vote for him to give him the best chance of winning the prize.
He said: “This is a very personal cause – I have had Parkinson's for seven years.
“My message to all Parkinson's sufferers – and their carers – is never give up doing what you like doing because you have Parkinson's.
“Only give it up when you can no longer do it.”
Voting closes Sunday, September 25. To vote, go to http://www.mountainwarehouse.com/competitions/charity/entries/peters-parkinsons-pilgrimage-e3325.
