An investigation has been launched after a young man was stabbed in Chesham in the early hours of this morning.

The 19-year-old was discovered by a police officer with a stab wound to his abdomen in Red Lion Street at around 1.30am today.

The victim is in hospital in a stable condition.

A 22-year-old man from Chesham has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in police custody.

Investigating officer, Det Sgt Tracey Benham of Force CID, said: "We are trying to establish how the victim came to be stabbed and by whom but we need the help of the public.

"This is a serious offence and we know there will be people out there who have information about what happened. I am appealing directly to you to search your conscious and come forward to the police.

"I would like to reassure local residents that we believe this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to wider members of the public.”
