A family has been left heartbroken after their two pet puppies died just days after being bought from a rogue puppy dealer in Denham Green – sparking a campaign urging the government to review the laws for online puppy selling.

The victim of the scam – who asked only to be named as Chloe – found an advert on website Pets4Homes for the collie labrador cross puppies and was joined by her family on Friday, September 9 to meet their new pet.

They instantly “fell in love” with one of the puppies – who they named Lola - and took her home on the same day after the seller assured that she had been given all her jabs, but admitted she had not been microchipped.

However just hours after Lola arrived at her new home in Aylesbury she became ill and the next day had to be rushed to the vet who told the family she had contracted the contagious and deadly Parvovirus.

The 17-year-old said: “We took her home and not long after she was being sick and had diarrhoea we all just assumed she was scared and un sure of her new surroundings.

“Saturday morning she got worse, she was lifeless, wasn't eating, still being sick and the diarrhoea had blood in.

“We took her to a vet and straight away she said she was incredibly skinny and severely dehydrated and that she also had Parvovirus.”

Despite the family’s best efforts to rehydrate the puppy her conditioned worsened overnight and Lola sadly died in Chloe’s sisters arms in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, September 11.

Chloe added: “We were absolutely heartbroken and tried getting in touch with the guy that sold her to us, he kept telling us he would meet us to give our money back but then when it came to it he said he was in Manchester.”

The frustrated family eventually managed to make contact with the seller on a different number posing as a potential buyer, and arranged to meet again.

Chloe continued: “My two male cousins were going to meet him while my sister and other cousin waited in their car to get photos of him, they called the police and explained everything but the police never showed up and the guy knew something was up.

“He kept denying that our first pup was ill when she was with him etc. saying 'what do you want from me, if you don't want this puppy tell me what you want. I can get you any breed you want.'

“All of us being such animal lovers they couldn't leave the second puppy with him so they took her and bought her back to our home in Aylesbury.”

Despite showing no signs of illness in the first couple of days the second puppy – who they named Lucky - later fell ill with the same symptoms and died from Parvovirus just five days after arriving at her new home.

A petition on the website change. org has been launched calling for sales websites such as Pets4Homes to change their policies for online puppy selling.

Pets4Homes and Thames Valley Police have been approached for a comment.
