A south Bucks village is the "proud" holder of the Leofwine Shield for the fourth time after being crowned Buckinghamshire’s Best Kept Village.

Chalfont St Giles won the prestigious shield for getting the highest number of points in the competition.

The village has an impressive record for winning the accolade, having previously won it in 2010, 2002 and 1996.

Chiltern District Council (CDC) chairman cllr Mimi Harker presented the award to cllr John Bradley, who was representing Chalfont St Giles parish council, at CDC’s full council meeting last week.

Cllr Bradley said: "I am delighted to receive this award on behalf of the Chalfont St Giles Parish Council, our employees and groundsmen and all those in the community who help to keep our village looking at its best.”

Cllr Harker said: "We are so fortunate in Chiltern to have so many people who care deeply about their local environment and take great pride in making their town or village look its best.

“Well done to Chalfont St Giles for really pushing out the boat and winning this year.”

The Leofwine Shield was first awarded in 1979 to Coleshill, and has been an annual fixture ever since.
