A crash on M40 northbound this morning caused rush hour traffic chaos.
Highways England confirmed all lanes are now open on the busy motorway and delays are easing, where this morning two out of three lanes were closed between J6 and J7, causing misery for drivers.
There were warnings of severe delays between J5 and J7, and motorists heading to the Midlands were advised to use the M1 and M6 instead.
Eyewitnesses reported standstill traffic across all three lanes, with drivers turning off their engines and stepping out of their cars to see what was happening.
Some drivers reported travel times of more than two hours from High Wycombe to Oxford.
