More than 10,000 flower bulbs and shrubs were planted in a Marlow park by volunteers at the weekend.

The newly-formed Rotary Club of Marlow Bridge joined forces with members of the Riley Park Trust at the green space in the centre of the town on Saturday (October 22) in a bid to “enhance” its beauty for the community with a van load of plants.

More than 50 flowering shrubs and trees were planted, along with 10,000 Ruby Giant crocus bulbs and 300 daffodil and tulip bulbs, by the hardworking volunteers.

The crocus bulbs are a part of Rotary’s ‘Purple for Polio’ campaign, which sees clubs around the world fighting to eradicate polio.

Tony Shannon, chairman of the Riley Park Trust, which was set up in 1914 to protect the area, described the rotary club as a “breath of fresh air.”

He said: “I can only register my sincere appreciation to this newly formed Club who unsolicited sought the Trust out for their support and we wish them well for the future.

“All members of the community are stakeholders in this most valuable jewel in the centre of Marlow and support of a newly set up town organisation is a major step in the right direction.”
