Work on improving Anglers Court is coming on “leaps and bounds”, according to a thrilled Spittal Street business.

Workmen started improvements to the “gateway” into the town last week, but despite criticism from some town campaigners, Bonners and Babingtons, in Anglers Court, said they “love” what is being done.

New granite paving is being laid, while one of three new trees has been planted.

Angie Kraft, part of the sales team at the estate agent, said they are “really improving” the area.

She said: “We are so impressed with the look they are going for and the workmen have been very amenable.

"We are looking forward to it being completed. Where our office is, it is a bit dingy so they’re really improving the light there.”

Last week, campaigners who fought to save the trees that once stood outside Anglers Court, branded their removal "environmental vandalism".
