An independent coffee shop in Marlow High Street hopes to extend its opening hours in a bid to provide evening entertainment for customers.

The Perch, at 91 High Street, which currently closes at 5.30pm every day, has applied to Wycombe District Council to stay open until 11pm.

Robyn Sutcliffe, owner of the coffee shop, said she hopes to provide theme nights and pottery classes for adults if the plans are given the go-ahead, as well as jazz nights or tapas evenings.

She said: “It is not going to be every week, but we hold pottery painting events for children and it would be great to do that for adults in the evening.

“We want to make the most of the shop, the high street is always buzzing, even at night. There are quite a few venues nearby that are open later, so I am hoping there won’t be a problem.”

Ms Sutcliffe said she thinks there is an “appetite” for the kind of events she wants to hold and says she has had a positive response from neighbours.

She said: “It would be a great thing to be able to launch in the New Year. With the bridge being closed, we need all the business we can get.”
