An annual ceremony in memory of lost loved ones in Princes Risborough, which raised £4,000 for charity last year, will take place on Sunday, November 27 this year.

The Tree of Light ceremony, organised by the town’s rotary club, started in 2008 with organiser Malcolm Barker saying it was “immediately welcomed” by the community and has become an “important and much-valued occasion” in the town in the lead up to Christmas.

He said the illuminated tree has become “quite a landmark” for pedestrians and drivers, and the dedication boards near the tree provide “the opportunity for a few moments of quiet contemplation”.

The ceremony is one of five Light up a Life services across Bucks where community groups work with Rennie Grove Hospice Care, which provides care and support to people with life-limiting illnesses and their families, to give people the chance to reflect and remember loved ones.

All funds raised from the service are shared between Rennie Grove and the rotary club’s own charities. The club has donated more than £25,000 to charities in the past year through various fundraising activies.

The Tree of Light is in the gardens at the corner of New Road and Duke Street and the dedication ceremony will start at 4pm.

The names of those being remembered are recorded on dedication boards and published in the Bucks Free Press.

Dedication forms can be obtained from the Princes Risborough Library or downloaded from the rotary club website at www.rcpr.org.uk.
