A SUPPORTER of Cambridge United has been banned indefinitely following allegations of racist abuse towards Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.
Wanderers frontman Akinfenwa reported an incident to the referee after the match at the Cambs Glass Stadium on November 19.
The Football Association confirmed it was investigating, as did Cambridge United and the police.
It has now emerged a Cambridge fan has been banned by the club.
The FA contacted both Akinfenwa and Cambridge United for their observations of events during the League Two match earlier this month, and both clubs confirmed they would take "appropriate action" against those involved.
A spokesman for Wycombe Wanderers praised the work that Cambridge United have done to hunt down the supporter.
He said: “Wycombe Wanderers would like to commend Cambridge United for taking swift and appropriate action to ban a supporter who aimed racist remarks at Adebayo Akinfenwa during the recent Sky Bet League Two fixture.
“Together with the local police, the two clubs worked together to compile evidence which enabled Cambridge to identify the perpetrator and issue an indefinite ban.
Cambridgeshire Police said it was continuing to investigate the incident and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
