A young people’s counselling service celebrated 35 years of serving the youth of Wycombe at a tea party last week.

Around 30 volunteers and supporters of the Youth Enquiry Service (Y.E.S) gathered at the centre in Frogmoor on November 25 to mark the momentous milestone.

The charity – which helps people between the ages of 13 to 25 - was originally established with financial backing from Bucks Youth Service and Wycombe District Council.

It has helped thousands of young people through counselling, a confidential drop in, and sexual health services.

The centre has now embarked on a “new era” after funding was stopped in September, now operating with no paid staff and relying entirely on donations to fund the £70 to keep it open every day.

Counselling co-ordinator, Emma Marshall, said: “It went really well we had the mayor here (councillor Zia Ahmed) and the chairman of the council (councillor Mahboob Hussain).

"It was really to raise awareness of the charity because we are independent now and we don't receive funding.

"Some of the councillors didn't even know we were here and the services we provide."

Chairperson Pete Casey said: "Y.E.S. is still here to help local young people and to hear what is needed. We are determined to look ahead to the next thirty five years".
