A university campus was transformed into a winter wonderland at the weekend which was enjoyed by crowds of thousands.

Buckinghamshire New University launched Winterland on Saturday which saw an ice skating rink, fairground rides and an indoor inflatable play area welcomed into the campus on Queen Alexandra Road.

The free event was organised by first year students studying music and live event management at the university and also included two live music stages with performances from a number of artists including the Homer Green Senior School choir and rock band.

The seasonal family fun-day - which ran for one day - was was attended by around 2,000 and was hailed a huge success.

Senior lecturer, and event manager, Neil Mackey said: “Our inaugural Winterland event was a roaring success, with nearly 2,000 visitors joining us on the day to enjoy all of the entertainment and activities on offer.

“Our first-year students carried out their roles with enthusiasm and an outstanding professional attitude, which in some ways was remarkable given that they have only been with us since September.

“All of this links directly to their course and they will now take time to reflect on the planning and processes required to deliver a major event and apply the overall success of Winterland against their own learning aims.”
