A Chesham man has been jailed for 28 weeks for theft and drugs possession.

Rodney Cox, 24, of Pheasant Rise, was sentenced after four pedal cycles and one cycle wheel worth more than £2,000 were stolen from cycle racks at Chesham Railway Station between February and July 2015.

On June 17 2015, officers responding to reports of an “insecure” garage in Chesham found a motorcycle, worth £4,300, which had been stolen from outside a Chesham property earlier that year.

Police said the motorcycle had sustained “considerable” damage.

After a joint investigation by Thames Valley Police and British Transport Police, and with the help of CCTV and forensic evidence, Cox was identified as a suspect and arrested on August 21 2015.

During the course of the arrest a set of golf clubs worth more than £1,200, which had been stolen from a shed in January that year, were recovered. Herbal cannabis was also found.

After failing to appear at court, Cox remained wanted for several months before being spotted by patrol officers in August this year. Cox was pursued and arrested with the help of members of the public.

Investigating officer for Thames Valley Police, PC Matt Cumming of the neighbourhood policing team in Chesham, said; “Cox was living locally, actively committing crimes against members of this community who lost thousands of pounds worth of property, only some of which has ever been recovered.

“On behalf of Thames Valley Police and British Transport Police, I would like to thank the public for their assistance with this investigation and I hope that this sentence is some reassurance to the residents of Chesham that this behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Police confirmed today that Cox was convicted at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on September 12 and sentenced on October 14 on two counts of handling stolen goods, five counts of theft of pedal cycle and one count of cannabis possession.
