A Marlow running club debuted their first new kit in more than 27 years at a weekly High Wycombe park run on Saturday.

The Marlow Striders wore their new strip in public for the first on January 7 at the weekly Wycombe Park Run on The Rye.

Founded on September 3, 1989, this is the first time that Striders have significantly changed their club colours and was done as part of the “highly successful” recent re-launch of the club.

The re-launch has seen its membership grow by more than 25 per cent within nine months to more than 150 runners.

As well as sporting their new blue kit, the club also celebrated the birthday of one of their members, Lyndsay Markham, who is also a park run race director.

Mike Thompson, co-chair of the Marlow Striders, said the change in the club’s strip was “emotional”, especially for the “ten founder members who are still in the club.”

He added: “Striders are a very forward looking club and are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to promote running in the community and enhance the experience for their existing members.

“In the past year members of Striders have competed in races of all types, ranging from 5km ‘fun runs’ to some of the toughest ultra-marathons in the world.”

The club also supports the community by the running the annual Marlow Half Marathon and associated events every November, which has raise more than £160,000 for charity, including the Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Carer's Bucks.
