A shocked neighbour has re-told the moment he attempted to save the life of a cyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run in High Wycombe late yesterday evening.

At around 11.40pm last night (January 16) a 28-year-old cyclist was travelling downhill in Hicks Farm Rise when we was involved in a crash with a  black car travelling in the opposite direction up the hill.

The black car did not stop at the scene but continued driving towards Totteridge Lane.

Bucks Free Press:

Police at the scene this morning.

One neighbour described hearing a “loud bang” and looked out of his bedroom window to see a body lying on the pavement outside.

The man, who asked not to be named, rushed outside to give CPR to the victim, and dialled 999.

He said: “I was the first guy there, I gave him CPR until the paramedics arrived.

“It must have been some impact. I was in my room and I heard this massive bang and I saw this bike on the floor, so I thought a bike must have fallen off the back of a truck because there was this rattling noise.

“I had a closer look and I could see someone lying on the floor so I grabbed my phone, ran outside and rang 999.

“What happened out there was an absolute travesty. It was only a matter of time something like that happened here – it is just terrible. And he's only 28 – it is such a waste of a life.

“You need to be more conscious when you are driving in a built up area. I just hope they catch them.”

Bucks Free Press:

The road was closed off yesterday evening but has since been reopened.

It is believed the black car was travelling in convoy with a silver car which also drove off.

The cyclist - a High Wycombe resident - sadly died at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.

Residents described seeing around five emergency vehicles at the scene, with one neighbour saying they could see flashing lights outside until about 3am.

Wycombe District Councillor for Totteridge, Julia Wassell, said she was “shocked and upset” about the tragedy.

She said: “I am very upset to hear about this horrendous accident – I was shocked when I heard about it and more than anything shocked that the car did not stop. It is on their conscience.”

"I am not sure what happened so I will have to wait and see the investigation report.

“It is on their conscience.”

Police have urged anyone who may have seen anything at the time of the accident to call sgt Beth Walton from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101 quoting URN 1587 16/1.
