Experts and personal trainers have told us how to get the most out of your workout – and now we’re passing that wisdom on to you.

It turns out that if you want to improve your strength, you should start doing squats, deadlifts, lunges, press-ups and the dreaded chest-press.

According to The Gym Group, in West Hampstead, you can just include the exercises in your workout routine whether you’re a man or a woman.

The rowing machine is the most effective  form of cardio – with the treadmill a close second, the cross trainer in third, the stepper in fourth place and the bike last.

Nando Stenning, the general manager at The Gym, said: “With each exercise we have listed, form and technique are paramount to make sure you are getting it right and reduce the risk of injury. The staff at The Gym are always more than happy to help you get it right.

“When we use the rower, we engage our legs when pushing off, we hold our core in tight to maintain posture, we use our arms and shoulders as well as contracting our back when we pull.”
