Plans to demolish an old post office in High Wycombe and turn it into housing have been submitted.

The Old Post Office in Downley’s High Street, which closed in 2004, could be knocked down and three new properties could be built in its place, if the plans are given the green light.

Developers want to build two three bedroom and one two bedroom houses with three parking spaces to the rear, but concerned residents think this could be too many for the site and are asking for two homes to be built rather than three.

One commented: “I have no objection to this site being redeveloped, but I think consideration should be given to two dwellings, not three.

“Three car parking spaces will not be suffice for three dwellings, leading to additional roadside parking in an already congested area.

“Any further parking in this area threatens the safe passage of existing residents and emergency vehicles.”

Another said: “There is no available parking space at all nearby to the properties.

Parking on the street outside would block an already difficult junction.

“No-one parks outside the old post office at the moment and never has for very good reasons.

“The maximum number of dwellings allowed on this site should be two and even then on-site parking would have to accommodate four cars properly.”

Christine Homes said each home will have parking in compliance with parking standards, with two spaces in a “tandem arrangement” – one under an open sided car port and one in front of the house.

They also said the owners would build and live in one of the properties under a “joint names” application.
