Wycombe has been branded one of the worst areas for takeaway food hygiene in the country.

Data taken from the Food Standards Agency website shows outside London, Wycombe has the 19th highest percentage of takeaways with a rating of zero or two - with 22.1 per cent of its 95 rated businesses requiring improvement.

If London council areas are included Wycombe is ranked 32 out of 355 council areas in the UK.

This comes after the Bucks Free Press revealed 60 restaurants across south Bucks with the worst hygiene ratings ahead of Valentine’s Day.

The study carried out by Love My Vouchers investigated food hygiene ratings at takeaways and sandwich shops in council areas across the UK.

Newham was the worst ranking district, with 49.6 per cent of businesses rated two or below and North Devon was the best with 100 per cent scoring four or five.

Director at Love My Vouchers, Linda Firth, said: “The study was conducted to raise awareness about the importance of food hygiene ratings, as they are not always obvious for takeaways, particularly in England.

“Many of the top food ordering websites do not currently display the ratings, so customers need to be mindful of this when placing an order.”
