Strong winds caused by Storm Doris battered south Bucks yesterday (Thursday), with fallen trees causing traffic chaos across the county.

We take a look back at a day of mayhem, as the storm swept through the county.

A fallen tree smashed through a bus shelter on the busy London Road in High Wycombe, closing the bus lane while police and maintenance teams worked to clear the debris and broken glass.

The Met Office issued an amber warning of wind as Storm Doris wreaked havoc across the country - with gusts of wind up to 60mph.

Thames Valley Police said they were experiencing a “higher than usual” number of calls throughout the day and were working with emergency services partners to respond to all enquiries.

Motorists were warned to take extra care on the roads as police dealt with a number of fallen trees and fences in the area.

The A413 between Chalfont St Giles and Amersham was forced to close after a tree blocked the road, with police asking drivers to avoid the area while it was cleared.

And Wycombe Road in Marlow was blocked while highways maintenance teams chopped up a fallen tree that was blocking the road on Thursday morning.

Firefighters were also busy – a crew from Marlow was called to the town’s High Street at 11.35am and removed a sign which was hanging from a wall in a "precarious" position.

Fire crews also received reports of fallen trees in Oxford Road, Gerrards Cross, and the A404 southbound just south of Marlow, and a tree fell against a house in Cedars Grange, Farnham Common.

At 1.32pm, firefighters made the scene safe after a tree fell on to a power line in Seven Hills Road, Iver Heath. The incident was left with electricity engineers.

Crews also dismantled a polytunnel which was blowing across a paddock near a railway line close to Askett Village Lane, Askett, at around 1.20pm.

It was not just drivers affected by the windy weather, as South Bucks District Council confirmed that Black Park, Langley Park, Denham Park and Thorney Park were to be closed from midday for the “safety of the public.”

Trains were also affected throughout the day, with fallen trees on the line at Gerrards Cross and Hatton resulting in all lines to London, Birmingham, Oxford and Aylesbury blocked at around 3pm.
