Akinfenwa is a name synonymous with football and making lives of defenders across the country a misery on a Saturday afternoon.
Currently, the man Adebayo Akinfenwa is in the middle of a golden run in front of goal, scoring his side’s last six goals and trying to help them push for promotion to League One.
However, there is an Akinfenwa making tiny waves in another sport across the other side of the globe.
This Akinfenwa is a greyhound based in Tasmania with trainer Graeme Moate and owned by Gary Sargent, who lives in the state of Victoria.
The greyhound has had 14 career starts and won twice, most recently in January at Hobart, the capital of Tasmania.
Sargent confirmed that his beloved dog is named after Adebayo Akinfenwa, the man mountain who is currently in the form of his life for Wycombe Wanderers.
He said: “My son Daniel named the dog because he follows football in England.
“I told him that I was naming the greyhound and I said to Daniel that he was a beast of a dog. Daniel then said to me about this this soccer player who had a nickname called ‘The Beast’ and that’s how we got the name Akinfenwa.”
Obviously the man himself was asked the question whether he thought he would have a greyhound named after him
He joked: “I am telling you I thought scoring at Wembley was my greatest achievement but to have a greyhound, a beast of a dog named after me, I can die a happy man!”
