South Bucks towns have come out on top for adopting rescue pets.

High Wycombe was among Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s top ten towns in the country for adopting their animals after rehoming 23 animals from the charity's Old Windsor centre last year.

It was the tenth highest amount of any town or city in the UK, including London, according to new figures released by the charity.

In total across the charity's three sites, High Wycombe residents adopted 33 pets.

In addition, kind-hearted residents from Marlow took on 13, Beaconsfield residents adopted nine and Chesham residents adopted eight.

Four animals were rehomed to Gerrards Cross, five to Hazlemere, three to Princes Risborough and two to Great Missenden from across all three of the charity's sites.

In total, 80 animals were rehomed in south Bucks.

Bailey, a four-year-old brown and cream Collie found a new home in High Wycombe in November last year after almost three months at Battersea, while two-year-old Lurcher Honey was brought to the charity as a stray and rehomed in Chesham last year after less than a month there.

And Chloe, a nine-year-old Domestic Short-hair cat, found a home in High Wycombe in December after two months at the charity.

Kaye Mughal, centre manager at Battersea Old Windsor, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to south Bucks, and in particular the people of High Wycombe, for their amazing contribution to rehoming rescue animals.

“At Battersea we rehome to all corners of the UK but to know that residents in High Wycombe are consistently rehoming our animals is fantastic and we hope we can count on their support for many years to come.

“Thanks also goes to players of People’s Postcode Lottery who awarded Battersea £650,000 last year.”
