High Wycombe firefighters tackled an unusual job on Saturday – rolling up their sleeves at a charity car wash.

Dozens of drivers took a pit-stop at High Wycombe Fire Station throughout the day, helping to raise more than £800 for The Fire Fighters Charity, which supports serving and retired fire personnel.

The spectacle gained a lot of interest across the town, with Bucks Fire and Rescue thanking all of those who got involved and donated.

Spokesman Fraser Pearson said: “We would like to thank everyone who supported the event and enabled us to raise so much money for this worthy cause, and to thank all the volunteers who helped us on the day.

“It was wonderful to meet so many people and to welcome them to the station.

“Judging by the looks on people’s faces – particularly children’s – when we rigged up the station’s turntable ladder to create a water shower, it was a day they will remember for a long time.”
