MP for Wycombe, Steve Baker, has tweeted to confirm his team are safe following reports of a shooting outside parliament this afternoon.

According to reports two people have been shot during an incident outside the houses of parliament in Westminster, and pedestrians have reportedly been mowed down by a car on Westminster bridge.

Reports have also emerged that a police officer has been stabbed.

MP for Aylesbury and the leader of the house of commons, David Lidington, spoke from parliament saying a "police officer has been stabbed" and "the alleged assailant was shot by armed police".

He said: "An air ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove the casualties.

"There are also reports of further violent incidents in the vicinity of the Palace of Westminster but I hope colleagues on all sides will appreciate that it'd be wrong of me to go into further details until we have confirmation from the police and from the House security authorities about what is going on."

Mr Baker tweeted from parliament to assure his constituents that the “Wycombe and ERG teams are safe and secure”, expressing his thanks to those who contacted him about his wellbeing.

The tweet stated: “Incident in Parliament - the Wycombe and ERG teams are safe and secure. Many thanks to those enquiring by SMS”.
