British jazz singer Claudia Morris spoke to the Bucks Free Press about her return to High Wycombe.

Leading British jazz singer and West End actress Claudia Morris returns to the Wycombe Swan Theatre to perform her new show, Let There Be Love, this weekend.

The show is a celebration of songs from the Great American Songbook and will feature hits by artists including Dusty Springfield, Nat King Cole and Doris Day.

Speaking to the Free Press, Claudia said: “The show is about the highs and lows of love. I’ll sing all the hits backed by a fantastic band, linking each song to my life and relationships.

“One thing I always wonder is why we look for love because despite the ups and downs, we’re always searching for it.

“I last sang in Wycombe in 2015, singing songs from my album Secret Love during my Sentimental Journey show, where I also celebrate the life and music of Doris Day with a traditional string orchestra.”

She added: “I’m really excited about the show in Wycombe because I know the area really well having grown up in Bucks and gone to school at Pipers Corner in High Wycombe.

“I enjoyed my last show at the Wycombe Swan so I’m looking forward to it.”

Claudia got her big break in 1989 in the West End where she was an original cast member in Buddy, before giving up her life of performing to get married and have children.

After an 18-year break, Claudia decided she “needed to get back to singing” and decided to relaunch her career, and things have only gone upward in recent years.

She said: “Although it was only two weeks ago, the highlight of my career was definitely my performance at Cadogan Hall.

“I received a standing ovation from 570 audience members, which was just so wonderful.

“The conductor has been working so hard for the songs to sound like Doris would in the 1940s and it has sounded magical lately.

“I don’t just sing songs by Doris Day in Let There Be Love, I’ll perform songs by Eva Cassidy and Carole King, as well as some from the present day, including Adele.”

Claudia will be performing at the Wycombe Swan tomorrow (Saturday). Tickets are £26.50. For more information, or to purchase tickets, go to www.wycombeswan.co.uk.
