A private south Bucks hospital celebrated its 35th anniversary with a 'special' visit from Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth.

BMI The Chiltern Hospital, in Great Missenden, celebrated the milestone with an afternoon tea party which was attended by Mr Ainsworth, as well as hospital consultants and staff, including nurse Sue Dover and receptionist Gill Witney, who have more than 55 years of service between them.

The head of the medical department, Cian O’Doherty, also joined in the celebrations.

The 18-acre site in London Road opened in 1982 and is known as the ‘Chiltern Hilton’, charging thousands of pounds per operation.

The main building, built in 1151 was originally Little Abbey connected to the Great Abbey, half a mile away.

Previously, the building was used as a preparatory school, a hotel and then private consulting rooms opened by a consortium of consultants, before becoming the Chiltern Hospital.

Hospital bosses said when it opened in 1982, more than 3,000 people attended the open day to see the new hospital and its facilities.

Executive director of BMI The Chiltern, Fraser Dawson, said: “The Chiltern Hospital maintains its policy of providing some of the most complex and technologically advanced care available to private and NHS patients.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to celebrate 35 years’ service.

“We were absolutely delighted to be joined by Gareth and Cian to help mark this special day.

“BMI Healthcare is committed to the continued development of The Chiltern Hospital, with plans this year to refurbish patients' bedrooms, the waiting area, main reception and consulting rooms.”
