A long awaited Burger King opened in High Wycombe town centre on Monday, much to the delight of shoppers.

Eyewitnesses have reported “manic” scenes as fast-food lovers flocked to the new restaurant at the Eden Centre at the site of the former Villagio Ristorante following its opening yesterday.

Eden Centre bosses were quick to rubbish rumours the fast-food chain was forced to close early on its first day because it was too busy and had run out food.

It was planned the restaurant would close at 6pm on its first day and it will close at 8pm for the rest of the week – however the hours will be reviewed next week, according to the shopping centre.

People have taken to social media to express their delight with one Twitter user stating: "Burger King in High Wycombe has opened today after a long absence from the Town! It has definitely been the talk of the office this morning"

Over the years, thousands of online campaigners have called for a Burger King to open in town, with more than 1,400 people joining the ‘High Wycombe Eden Centre Needs a Burger King and it Needs One Now’ group in 2010.
