Two pupils from a High Wycombe grammar school scooped the top prize in an art competition by Wycombe Homeless Connection (WHC).

Budding artists Thomas Jarvis and Oli Munby, from Royal Grammar School, in Amersham Road, were presented with their prizes – a Samsung tablet – by High Wycombe Mayor cllr Zia Ahmed at a ceremony in High Wycombe library.

They beat 240 pupils from seven secondary schools across the county, who entered their paintings, drawings and photographs for the charity's competition, entitled Journeys.

They were asked to show the struggle of homeless people who feel like they are on a “hard path”, working their way from homelessness to being housed.

Thomas won in the 11-14 age category and Oli took the top prize in the 15-18 category.

Vickie Morrish, communications officer at WHC, who organised the competition, said: “We were overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of the art submitted for this, our first ever art competition.

“This year we’re marking 10 years of WHC rebuilding lives, and the scale of entries shows that local homelessness is an issue that really resonates with young people in our town.

“Many thanks to everyone who entered, to the library for exhibiting the artwork, and to the Mayor for presenting the prizes.”

Members of the public who want to see the exhibited artwork can visit the library until the end of April.
