- Marlow Round Table say preparations for this year’s May Fayre are coming together and look “great” so far – the popular annual event, which will be held in Higginson Park on Saturday, May 13, will feature pony rides, zorb balls, classic cars, a barbecue, drinks bar and stalls selling goods like jewellery and kids’ games. Tickets for the famous Marlow duck race (pictured above), which is part of the May Fayre celebrations, are on sale now at Beehive Treats in Spittal Street for £2 each.
 

- Hambleden Horse Trials takes place from April 21 to 23 this year. Riders will start at 8.30am each day, with the competition going on until at least 6pm at the Culden Faw Estate. Organisers promise the event will be a “great family day out” with plenty to see and do. Entrance is £5 per car.
 

- Marlow Choral Society presents Stainer’s Crucifixion on Saturday, May 6 at 7.30pm in All Saints’ Church, Marlow, conducted by Chris Grant, with organist Colin Spinks. The choir will also sing other works by Stainer and Haydn. With songs of springtime sung by the soloists. - Archaeology in Marlow (AIM) have organised a talk entitled ‘Reluctant Recruits: Conscription in Marlow in the First World War’. This is a talk by Andy Ford, AIM member and Chairman of Marlow Remembers World War I Group. In 1916 the Government introduced conscription to boost the flagging numbers of recruits to the Army. More than 160 men from Marlow and the surrounding area appealed against being conscripted. Using newspaper reports from the time, Andy tells the story of these men - why they appealed and what happened to them. The talk is taking place on Thursday, April 27 at 8pm in the Garden Room of Liston Hall, Chapel Street, Marlow. The cost is £3 for members of AIM and £4.50 for visitors, which includes refreshments. - A brilliant choir of young people will perform a varied programme of choral and solo items, including motets and spirituals for mixed voices, at Christ Church URC next month. Taplow Youth Choir, directed by Gillian Debden MBE, will perform at the church on Sunday, May 14 from 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 and proceeds support Christian Aid. - Bucks Pottery and Sculpture Society are holding their annual exhibition at Liston Hall, Chapel Street, Marlow this Saturday, April 22 from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Potters and sculptors from all over Bucks will be showing around 200 pieces of their work in a wide variety of styles. All pieces will be for sale and admission is free.
 

- Enjoy a screening of ‘Losing Sight of Shore’, a documentary that follows the extraordinary journey of four brave women known as the Coxless Crew that set out to row the Pacific Ocean from America to Australia unsupported, in Marlow on May 6. The film follows the crew as they row over 8,000 miles during their nine months at sea, facing extreme mental and physical challenges they must overcome in order to go down in history. The screening will take place from 6pm at the Macdonald Compleat Angler Hotel. Coxless Crew rowers Emma Mitchell and Natalia Cohen as well as Film Director Sarah Moshman will be in attendance for a Q&A afterwards.
 

- The popular Transition Town Marlow Community Market will be held on April 29 this month. The community hub is held on the last Saturday of the month from 9.30am until 1pm at Liston Hall in Chapel Street. You can browse or buy local food, craft and services.
