Delighted staff and students at a south Bucks school were treated to a royal visit this week by Katharine, Duchess of Kent, as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.

The duchess, who is married to Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, visited Beaconsfield High School for the second time since officially opening it in October 1966, to open its advanced science labs which have been designed to mimic university labs, and the reception area.

She was treated to music performances by the three senior school choirs, along with a solo cello performance by school music competition winner Elizabeth Corbett and a finale from the senior strings, before pulling the curtains on the new reception plaque, which now sits below the original from 50 years ago.

Head teacher Rachel Smith said: “We are so thrilled to have welcomed the Duchess of Kent back to Beaconsfield High School.

“It is a real honour to have her join us at a time of real evolution and development for the school.

“This celebration is our way of giving back to all the parents, staff, students, alumnae and the local community who have and continue to support the school in constantly improving on its happy, high achieving learning environment.”

The Royal celebrations are one of the final events organised to celebrate the school’s 50th year.

BeckyFest, a summer festival organised by governors, parents, staff and students, kicked off the proceedings, followed by a tea party to reunite the alumnae of the school.

The final event will be a golden anniversary ball in the school’s main hall, complete with fine dining, a live band and auction in June.
