South Bucks residents are being praised for responding to the horrific Grenfell Tower fire in London in a “truly amazing and inspiring” way.

Community group High Wycombe Helping Others has been “inundated” with offers to help the victims of the inferno, which raged through the 24-storey Kensington tower block in the early hours of this morning.

Spokesman Katherine Dickinson said: “As the news broke this morning of the awful fire in London, the people of High Wycombe did what they do best – worked together as a community to find out what was needed and how to get it there.

“By 9am there was a fundraiser set up by High Wycombe Helping Others, and members were also liaising with people on the ground in London to find out what supplies were needed.

“We have been inundated with offers of supplies, of people asking what is needed and how they can help, plus we have already raised more than £650 which will be used to buy more aid for those affected by the fire.

“As always the people of High Wycombe are responding in a truly amazing and inspiring way.”

Around a dozen people have now been confirmed dead with police fearing further fatalities.

Ms Dickinson confirmed Tesco Loudwater donated food, Booker Cash and Carry donated water and Auto Medic, in West Wycombe Road, sent a van and a driver to take the first load of emergency aid to where it was needed.

She added: “This isn't the first time the people of High Wycombe have responded like this, and it certainly won't be the last.”

The group is taking food, drink and new underwear donations tomorrow (Thursday) between 8am and 10am at Big Yellow Self Storage, in London Road, High Wycombe.
