A devastated mum has “lost everything” including her baby daughter’s ashes and pet tortoise after a fire tore through her family home earlier this month.

Laura Mapley, 27, has recalled the moment her 26-year-old partner, Ryan Collins, ran through the burning house to rescue her 10-year-old son, Kieran, who was playing Xbox in his room upstairs when the fire took hold.

The mother-of-two was enjoying the sun with her family on June 3 and decided to cook some onion rings in the kitchen after preparing a barbecue – however when she removed the lid, the overheated pot burst into flames.

Immediately she turned her back to the blaze and suffered burns on her arms, ears, side of her face, back and neck – which are beginning to heal following hospital treatment.

Ms Mapley said: “My partner comes to stay with me at the weekends. He has dogs. My eldest was upstairs – if you see my son’s bedroom the roof is completely caved in.

“He was in his bedroom playing Xbox. My first instinct was to run in and get my son out of the house.

“My youngest and dogs were in the garden so they were safe. He [Mr Collins] went through the house and put a t shirt over his head and got my son.

“Then he went round the front of the house and got the dogs and he switched the electrics off. The fire brigade and police couldn’t believe how quick thinking he had been. He was amazing.”

Pictures show the total devastation of the house, which is owned by housing association Home Group, and the family have been told it could take up to a year to restore.

Ms Mapley is now desperate to be reunited with her children who are temporarily staying with their grandparents while she waits to be rehomed.

A JustGiving page set up to support the family - who lost everything, including Ms Mapley’s stillborn baby’s ashes - has already raised £2,060.

“Ms Mapley has also thanked the fire firefighters for their dedicated work, however admitted she became increasingly concerned when it took Bucks Fire and Rescue around 20 minutes to arrive at her burning home.

“Bucks Fire and Rescue confirmed it was called to the fire at 4.17pm, however at the time the two nearest fire engines were at a crash in Hazlemere.

Spokesman, Fraser Pearson, said: “This therefore had a knock-on effect to mobilising, so the next nearest appliances were subsequently selected, both of which were on scene in 18 minutes.”
