The funeral of a Thames Valley Police officer, who tragically died in a motorcycle crash in Amersham, took place today (June 16).

Amersham-based PC Simon Caddy sadly died on Friday, May 26 when the motorcycle he was riding while off-duty was involved in a crash with a black Hyundai estate car on the A413.

Family, friends and colleagues of PC Caddy joined together to celebrate the 29-year-old’s life at Milton Chapel in the Chilterns Crematorium this morning.

Uniformed officers escorted PC Caddy’s hearse, pausing outside Amersham police station where his colleagues formed a guard of honour to pay their respects.

Officers from the Roads Policing department and the force’s mounted section then joined the procession at the crematorium.

Force chaplain reverend Canon David Wilbraham led a service of remembrance which was attended by chief constable Francis Habgood and head of roads policing for the Thames Valley, chief inspector Henry Parsons.

PC Caddy joined the force in 2007 as a PCSO in Amersham, later becoming a student police officer in 2008 and subsequently worked as a response officer and a neighbourhood officer. In 2015 he became a roads policing officer based in Amersham.

Chief constable Habgood said: “My thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of PC Simon Caddy who was so tragically killed in a collision recently.

“We heard tributes from several people at the funeral and it was clear he was a man who touched the hearts of so many.

“Simon had worked as both a PCSO and police officer with Thames Valley Police – both roles he loved and of which he was very proud.

“He clearly made a positive difference to so many people and there were members of the community present to recognise his contribution. Simon will be sadly missed by everyone.”

PC Caddy’s family are being supported by a specially-trained family liaison officer.

Following the crash his family paid tribute to the “dearly loved” 29-year-old, saying: "He had a unique ability to spread joy and humour to all he came into contact with. So dearly loved by family and friends, he will be deeply missed and forever with us in our thoughts.”
