More than £2,000 has been raised so far to pay for the funeral of chemical “attack” victim Joanne Rand after a crowdfunding campaign was launched last week.

The 47-year-old carer from Marlow died in Stoke Mandeville hospital on Wednesday, June 14 after she suffered “serious” burns when she was “caught up in an altercation” in High Wycombe earlier this month.

A Just Giving page set up by Joanne’s friend, Owen Livett, has so far raised £2,319 of the £5,000 target in just five days with contributors paying tribute to a “kind and caring person.”

One anonymous donator said: “I doubt there's a single person in this town who isn't thinking of her, her children, or you, at this time, even if, like me, they don't know any of you. Truly terrible.”

The Marlow resident had been sitting on a bench in Frogmoor on June 3 when she was splashed with the chemical, believed to be an alkaline substance, after being caught up in a fight.

The mother-of-two was rushed to hospital for treatment, but was later discharged. However she was readmitted to the hospital on Friday, June 9 where she died five days later.

Police have launched a murder investigation and have issued a fresh witness appeal to help locate the bottle which contained the chemical.

An 18-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning GBH on Tuesday and was released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Xeneral Webster, 18, of Westway, Hammersmith and Fulham, London, was charged on Tuesday, June 13 with one count of robbery in connection with the incident.

He appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on June 14 and was remanded in custody.

So far 114 people have contributed to the campaign. To donate visit https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/joannerand
