The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thundery downpours later today and into tomorrow.
Spells of rain, heavy and thundery at times, are expected to affect parts of northern England through the rest of Wednesday and into early Thursday.
There is a risk of more severe thunderstorms breaking out from late Wednesday afternoon onwards into Wednesday night, leading to torrential downpours, frequent lightning, very large hail and strong gusts of wind, according to the Met Office warning.
This could result in some disruption, which may include sudden localised flooding of transport routes, homes and businesses. Lightning could also disrupt power supplies.

A large area of southern Scotland and nothern England is covered by the yellow warning, but there is some hope that the Bradford district could escape the worst of the weather.
The Met Office Chief Forecaster's assessment says: "The situation is very finely balanced and most places will see little or no severe weather.
"However there is potential for severe thunderstorms developing from late Wednesday afternoon and through the first half of the night - the greatest risk across northern England and the north Midlands."
