Dozens of police officers raided two properties in High Wycombe this morning in connection with modern slavery and money laundering crimes.

Around 40 officers carried out two warrants at properties in Micklefield Road at 6am today (July 10) under section eight of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

Police have said neighbourhood officers will be in the area to speak to residents who have any concerns or questions.

Wycombe District Council’s private sector housing team assisted police to help assess “serious concerns” over the safety of people living at the homes.

Spokesman for WDC, Sue Robinson, said: “Wycombe District Council’s private sector housing team assisted police following a raid in Micklefield this morning.

“They were present at the site in Micklefield to assess serious concerns around the safety of people - including risk to life.

“They are currently assisting the occupants by providing statutory housing advice and working with other agencies including police and fire services.”

WDC ward member for Micklefield, councillor Matt Knight, hailed residents for assisting police with the investigation.

He said: “I am glad to see that action has finally been taken.  It is a credit to the community of Micklefield that people have spoken up and a credit to the police for initiating these raids today.

“WDC officers from a number of departments are also part of today's operation.

“It is by working together that we make our community a safer and happier place to live.”
