A summer fair at an historic conference centre in Great Missenden has raised almost £1,500 for charity.

The 12th Century Missenden Abbey, a former monastery now owned by High Wycombe’s Bucks New University and based in London Road, played host to more than 1,000 people for its fourth annual fair.

The fair raised £1,421 for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, in Amersham.

General manager Eva Neupauer-Jones said: “The weather was brilliant and it was great that all visitors were able to enjoy the grounds and a stroll within the Walled Garden at the Abbey.

“We were delighted to raise a fantastic sum of money for a deserving cause in Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

“We are always keen to support a local charity’s fundraising efforts and visitors were also able to meet the charity’s mascot, Marvin the Marvellous Crocodile.”

Emma Jeans, from the charity, said: “It was wonderful to be invited as the charity partner for this year’s event.

“It was such a great day, raising almost £1,500 for the charity, which will be used to support the work of our specialist nurses who care for seriously ill children across the UK.”
