A 56-year-old carer from Burnham has been named Carer of the Year after colleagues voted for her in a secret ballot.

Burnham-based Bluebird Care announced Lily Petric as its Carer of the Year due to her “exceptional dedication”, “sense of responsibility” and her “willingness to help” when schedules were under pressure.

Lily has provided care in individuals’ homes across South Bucks, south Wycombe and Slough since February last year, when she moved to the UK.

She said: “I was very surprised and delighted to have won the award because Bluebird Care has so many amazing carers.

“When I see my clients happy and smiling that is all the reward I need. I care for my customers as if they are my mum – that’s the only way I can do the job and it is incredibly rewarding.”

Lily previously worked in the corporate world as a sales manager, key account manager and a commercial director.

She added: “Before I started with Bluebird Care, I wasn’t sure if I could do the job to the high standards they require, but I absolutely love it – and the people I care for are lovely so it makes it all worthwhile.”

Bluebird Care director Anne Inglis praised Lily for her “outstanding commitment”, saying: “Competition this year was very strong so winning the award demonstrates Lily’s outstanding commitment and ability to go the extra mile for vulnerable people in our community.

“We are delighted to present the award to Lily Petric – she has been fantastic since joining us, and she is always flexible and willing to help out when schedules are under pressure.

“The qualities of a great carer include a naturally caring nature and treating your customers as if they were your own family. It’s so much more than just a career.”
