There are estimated to be only eight rough sleepers in the Wycombe district, according to a council boss.

Cabinet member for housing, Councillor Julia Langley, was quizzed on the current number of rough sleepers in the district at a meeting of Wycombe District Council on Monday.

As of July 5 there are approximately eight people living on the streets of Wycombe – which is calculated by local agencies working together with a rough sleeper’s core group - according to Cllr Langley.

She said the group meets every two weeks to discuss people who are believed to be homeless and the housing options for each individual.

Spokesman for Wycombe Homeless Connection, Heather Morley, said the number is “usually twice” than what was quoted by Cllr Langley, however added that not all individuals are witnessed and verified.

She said: “We believe that the number quoted by Cllr Langley is the witnessed and verified number for the date in question.

"The numbers are quite fluid and vary from week to week.”
