A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with “serious injuries” following a crash involving two lorries on the M40 last week.

Emergency services were called out to the motorway going southbound, after the crash, which happened between J5 (Stokenchurch) and J4 (High Wycombe) on Friday (July 21), as thousands of motorists took to the roads for the school summer holidays.

South Central Ambulance Service confirmed it received a call at 1.30pm and sent out two ambulance officers, an ambulance crew, an air ambulance and an air ambulance response vehicle.

SCAS also confirmed paramedics treated a man, believed to be in his 30s, at the scene. Following assessment, he was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment.

The motorway was closed going southbound while emergency services worked to clear the scene.

It came after a lorry fire also forced the M40 to be closed off at J4 earlier that afternoon due to heavy smoke.
