Plans for four new shops, new toilets, an upgraded car park and new lifts at the Swan Shopping Centre have been unveiled by the district council.

Work to replace the lifts in the shopping centre will start this autumn, while maintenance in the mall will begin early next year,

Potential longer-term schemes will be intended to address feedback received in a consultation on the Transform Leatherhead masterplan and will include plans for leisure opportunities, larger shops and housing within the shopping centre, Mole Valley District Council announced.

Planned improvements also include works on the rear façades onto Leret Way and the High Street, and advanced use of digital technology.

The council approved £1.4million worth of investment for the Swan Shopping Centre last month, as part of the 10-year, £200million Transform Leatherhead project.

Simon Edge, Executive Member for Transform Leatherhead, said: “These exciting plans for The Swan Shopping Centre have been driven by the feedback from residents and businesses during the creation of the Transform Leatherhead Masterplan.

“Residents want to see the car park improved and broadening the range of retail on offer to improve their shopping experience. These schemes will firmly anchor both The Swan Shopping Centre and the High Street at the heart of a transformed Leatherhead town centre. Further retail opportunities on Bull Hill will complement and extend the core town centre offering, enabling Leatherhead to compete with neighbouring towns.”
