A gory Shakespearian tale and the newest instalments of a classic superhero animation are the headline events to be brought to the big screen by Vue Watford this August.

The line-up opens with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s adaptation of Titus Andronicus on Wednesday, August 9. It follows the violent scenes of a corrupt Rome which descends into rape, cannibalism and severed body parts after Titus relinquishes power. Blanche McIntyre returns to the RSC to direct Shakespeare’s brutal revenge tragedy after her debut directing The Two Noble Kinsmen (2016).

Later in the month, Billie Piper returns in her Evening Standard Best Actress award-winning role in Yerma. Directed by Simon Stone, the production follows a young woman as she is driven to the unthinkable by her desperate desire to have a child.

Johnny Carr, alternative content manager at Vue UK and Ireland, says: “Our big screen events calendar always offers a wide range of quality content and this month is certainly no exception.

“We’ve also got some animated fun with Batman and Harley Quinn on August 14. The original story is penned by Bruce Timm and features the Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch as the voice of Harley Quinn and Kevin Conroy once again as the caped crusader.”
