A four-day-old puppy dumped and left for dead by bins just days before a storm has been bottle-fed back to health and taken in by a loving family.

Doris, now nearly six months old, was found by communal bins in Pitwood Green, Tadworth two days before Storm Doris battered the UK with 90mph winds that sent trees crashing to the ground and caused travel chaos.

She was taken in by staff at RSPCA Millbrook in Chobham and bottle-fed the young puppy, who staff believe is a German Shepherd cross, and nursed her back to health.

Now, Doris has gone on to find a happy new home with owners Jack Campfield and Jodie Jones in Godalming.

Liz Wood, deputy manager at RSPCA Millbrook, became Doris’ surrogate mum for three months.

“Doris was very lucky she was found – she was very small and extremely vulnerable when she came in to us at RSPCA Millbrook,” Liz said.

“She was so tiny we weren’t sure if she would even survive without a mum.

“Doris was so tiny we didn’t know what breed she was or even how big she would grow.

“Look at her now - she has turned into a stunning young dog and I’m so proud of

“I simply could not believe someone would dump such a tiny puppy, she was so small and vulnerable.”

Young couple Jack and Jodie said they were smitten with the puppy the moment they laid eyes on her.

Jack said: “It really was love at first sight when we saw Doris. We just knew she was the one for us. We saw her bounding around the centre and we knew we just had to take her home.

“It is amazing she survived. She is such an intelligent dog and we completely adore her. Everyone that meets her falls for her. She even has her own Instagram account now with over 700 followers!

“She just loves life and she is so intelligent. Her favourite thing is swimming - you can’t keep her out of the water! She is a real foodie too - she loves her food.

“She is such a friendly lovable girl. I’m a postman - and she loves jumping in my van with me, she is the only dog I know that doesn’t bark at the postman!”
