A mother and daughter duo from Amersham will be taking part in a charity colour run next month in memory of a loved one who died from bowel cancer.

Lorraine Upton and her 6-year-old daughter Amelie will take on Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s Colour Blast: The Scramble in Penn House Estate on Sunday, September 24.

Mrs Upton hailed the support the charity provided her father after he was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer in 2011 – and now plans to complete the 1k children’s race with Amelie in his memory.

She said: “Having experienced Rennie Grove’s services first-hand, I know how important they are to the patients and families that really need them.

“Events such as this are vital so the charity can continue to provide local patients and families with invaluable support.

“I also wanted my daughter to participate as she was just a few months old when her grandfather passed away.

“We will be taking part in his memory and raising money so that Rennie Grove can continue to provide end-of-life care and support to other patients and families into the future.

“I would definitely encourage people to just give it a go. You might meet people who have been through a similar experience, plus its fun and for a good cause.”

The 1k race, which is open to all ages, costs £10 and the 5k is open to over 12s only and costs £25.

Participants will receive a t-shirt, pair of sunglasses and a medal.

Rennie Grove Hospice Care provides care and support to adults and children diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.
