Eagle eye Marlow residents were left bemused this week as it appeared construction workers mistakenly built around a lamppost on a major town centre development.

Pictures show a concrete block surrounding a lamp post in Spittal Street where work on the new Windsor House development is taking place.

Developers Shanly Homes insisted the move was intentional and is a “temporary measure” to maintain street lighting on the Spittal Street.

Managing director of Shanly Homes, Stewart Kirk, said: “Lantern-style wall hung street lamps are due to be installed at Windsor House to replace existing lamp posts on the shopping street.

“In agreement with Marlow Council the new lamps will improve lighting and declutter the footpath to make for a more accessible and attractive street scene.

“We have constructed a bay window base around an existing lamp post as a temporary measure to maintain street lighting on Spittal Street – we are not yet at the appropriate stage of construction to install the wall hung lamps, this is planned for spring next year.”
